Aghast Feats

Feh. So, last night, we welcomed the baseball post season (and congratulations to one of the Chicago teams! Sucks to be the other one!) with an hour's worth of Arrested Development. perich missed the second half, so I did a quick recap, and realized just how damn complicated one episode of that show is. It's like a jigsaw puzzle. Scores of little pieces click together, and in the end, a funny picture. I also read the Wikipedia entry on the show. Man, I gotta get the DVDs tonight.

Last night's episodes were great, with a Church & State Fair in one episode, and a Godzilla homage ("as you can see, our mole problem is greatly exaggerated") in the second.

Tonight is a two hour Amazing Race. This season's show is dissapointing to everyone. Phil basically says why at the beginning of every episode, when he says "the Amazing Race" instead of "a race around the world". Dammit, I wants me some travel porn. I want to see two brothers from Albany, one a fireman, the other an accountant, trying to find a falafel vendor in Leiscter Square so they can form 200 falafel balls to get their clue. I want a gay father and his angry army sergeant son to find common ground while doing SOMETHING in India (the country that Creighton has said "breaks teams"). I want two sisters, one a wiccan free spirit, the other a baptist prison guard, try to sell 40 baguettes from a cart in Kuala Lampur.

And I don't want to see Dakota Fanning get eliminated from the show. Dammit.

Oh, yeah: Does anyone know if it's physically possible to buy a copy of the Glass Teat books by HE? I know his deal with White Wolf died right before they printed that compilation, but I was under the impression they were used as university texts, so they must be in print SOMEWHERE.

I realized today that I'm willing to forgive this season if and only if next season I get my goddamn show back -- teams of two people who know each other well enough to have built-in ticks and annoyances, off on a plane they actually had to work for seats on so that they can go to Abu Dhabi or Bora Bora or wherever to wrestle alligators or jump off buildings or carry giant wheels of cheese.

I've only seen a few episodes - the ones with the couple who were described only as "virgins." :)

I'm having a strange cognitive dissonance at your juxtaposition of your request for both "The Glass Teat" and "The Other Glass Teat" where HE heaps well deserved scorn on (1970s) television, and the amount of TV shows you watch as mentioned in the same LJ entry...

Alas, I think both are long our of print (and probably long out of date). I can't seem to find my copies, either. Perhaps a used bookstore?

The show is a lot of fun, when it hasn't lost its way.

Wow, Amazing Race, Arrested Development & Lost? We have so much TV watching in common its downright scary :)
And yes, this season of AR has absolutely been sucking. The Bransen girls are kinda cute, and I was sad to see the Geghans go, which surprised me since I'm not a fan of "cute kids" in general, but I was very happy to finally see the Paolo's bite the dust. Next up is hopefully so those self-righteous twits, the Weavers!

By the way, do you read recaps on www.televisionwithoutpity.com ? If not, you should. Miss Ali writes a recap that is invaraibly ten times more entertaining then the actual Amazing Race episode :)

And Arrested Development just rules! I think my favorite bit is Ron Howard's voice overs, and the plethora of in-jokes (Scott Baio replacing Henry Winkler, Ron getting mad at Lucille for calling someone Opie "Yes, she had gone too far, AND SHE'D BETTER WATCH IT", or ensuring the audience that the family was in NO WAY was making fun of Andy Griffith with his "trailer", or the latest with the "If this were a Lifetime movie, that would be our act break!" [act break music] Ron V/O: "But this is isn't." Show continues - LOL I love that show. Oh and I can't hear the name Bob Loblaw without breaking into giggles :)

It's good to see you have such fine taste in TV shows. :)

I tried reading TWOP, but it always caused my snark detectors to go haywire, which is unfortuanate, as they're generally amusing. The unfortunate thing about the Paolo's was, well, DJ. He was such a tool.

Opie's voiceovers are just hilarious. Bob Loblaw is just the funniest name ever.

Are there any good Used Book Stores (UBS) where you live? Hamilton is somehwhat of a wasteland these days.
