Well, it looks like Mongoose is gonna make a Starship Troopers RPG.

At this point, of course, I can't say if I'd be interested. The character sheet seems to indicate it'll be d20, with classes (so no d20 Modern).

Of course, going by just the character sheet, it appears characters will be unable to learn English. A shame, that.

The preview indicates they're using the same "d20 with minimal HPs" formula as the B5 game did; you get Con at level one, and +2 at every level after that. I can't help but wonder what the Toughness feat does; if it's the same as in regular d20, I can see why they think players will take it a lot.

It unfortunately looks interesting, so I might break down and pick it up. Of course, I said that about Paranoia XP too, so we'll see.

edited to prevent confusion.

When I read 'ST', I automatically thought Trek. Wouldn't have guessed that Starship Troopers would be a viable lisence material for a game. But, i suppose we're at the get any lisence we can stage now.

As for the english thing, well there's no language slot that I saw, so perhaps they're not going to make a game mechanic out of it. Which, honestly, except for translating arcane/alien languages, I really don't see the point in it - especially with your own given tongue. (Now if there's a system for drawback and we include some sort of communication/learning disability, that's a diff story.)

Oh, i read the novel. I thought it was doing a good job of making the point that fighting the bugs turned the human race into exactly the same mindless hive-beings. Then i went back and read the introduction, which explained that Heinlein was totally pro-the stuff in the book, exclaimed "Ugh!" and put it down. I don't think i've finished anything by him since.

Mongoose tends to produce ultimately disappointing products I find... as to what it's based on, I'm guessing the movie series, which was more fascist in nature than the book.

Besides, the original book is a nearly forgotten thing by the general public.

Didn't notice there was a 2nd page. :P

Yeah, that's odd.

As for Trek lisence, well, I'm not surprised.

I missed the cartoon when it was on, but I also heard praise for it.

The series was, in fact, good.
