The Bitter Guide to The Damn movie Meme
May. 15th, 2005 12:27 pmOkay, fine. After about five people tagged me this morning, fine.
Question 1: Total Number of Films I own on DVD/Video.
I don't know. Maybe 60? Not as many as some of you, but that's hardly insane.
We've got maybe a dozen Seasons on DVD. B5 1-4, Buffy 1-7, Angel 1-3, Simpsons 1 & 5, X-Files 1 & 3... Does the Thunderbirds count? I got Cindy the entire run of that. Hmm. Okay, maybe 20. Damn. Red Dwarf 1 & 3-6. And Firefly. Futurama 1. And, Made in Canada. Okay, 27 + Thunderbirds.
Question 2 Last Film I Bought: The Incredibles. God, I love that movie. And the extras? Sweet. Previous to that it was Spartan and the redone Manchurian Candidate.
Question 3:Last Film I Watched in the Theatre: Kung Fu Hustle. Chow's an 'effin genius. Love him. So much fun.
Question 4: Five Films I Watch a Lot/that mean a lot to me:
Oddly enough, I don't really watch a lot of films a lot. I'm lucky if I get to watch them once or twice.
Well, I used to watch Die Hard religiously (I'm talking old Catholic grandma religiously; once a day and twice on Sunday). I loved that movie so much. Perfect action film. Cool Dry Wit, slowly deteriorating body. "Yippie Kay Yay, Motherfucker." A highly skilled team of Euro-Thieves. Awesome.
I've enjoyed going back to watch Kill Bill a couple times. The House of Blue Leaves sequence is just great (and some day, yes, some day I will see it in colour), and is just a great battle sequence, going from lieutenants to named villain to mass of mooks, which is an interesting reversal of the usual order of things. That battle is the reason why the Katana will once again be the greatest weapon in every game arsenal.
Star Wars IV: A New Hope (w/ Han Shooting First) because it's the first film I recall seeing in a movie theatre. Sure, I probably saw some Disney stuff first, but this one stuck, so that should explain a lot to your readers at home.
Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back is a given. Great film, best space opera flick evah. A brutal land battle, well laid out and paced. A sagacious master instructing a headstrong student. It's like an iconic dictionary of film bits.
I'd really LIKE to watch the Devil's Brigade in full, but I've never had the time. I do love that scene where the Canucks march into base. Just delightful.
{edit: Of course, my actual 5th is The Usual Suspects. Nice little "hoo-ah!" twist of a film, that. And let me tell you about the time I was in a barbershop quartet in Skokie Illinois.}
Question 5: Who do I want to fill this out next?:
robin_d_laws and ONLY
robin_d_laws. Seriously, it's like standing next to the wailing wall. I tried to guess-timate his collection once, and my brain SHUT DOWN. I collapsed into a puddle in his living room.
That was so embarrassing.
Mind you, he won't because he rarely reads his Flist, but it would still be cool.
And maybe
sixteenbynine, but also unlikely.
