In this episode, I torture [livejournal.com profile] mercuryeric.

1. What are currently your three favorite comic series, and why?

Astro City (which I don't think qualifies as a 'series' anymore, but what the hell), The Supreme Power, and She Hulk. Now, She Hulk has been cancelled, but it was great while it was in production. I loved Ultra, but that was just a quirk of mine.

2. Which -- in your opinion -- is the best, funniest season of Black Adder, and what is your favorite quote or scene from the show?

Blackadder Goes Fourth. Because I spent four horrible years one semester learning about the Great War, and several Remembrance Days marching in the rain to the local cenotaph. It just felt realer to me. And shirking responsibility is much more familiar to me than seeking glory.

"I have a cunning plan." "How cunning is it, Baldrick? Is it so cunning it could only be thought of by a fox named Mr. Cunning who had just been named professor of cunning at Oxford?" "Yes." "Well, it's too late."

3. How far is Milton from the US (specifically NY) border, and is it anywhere near Cornwall, or the St. Lawrence River? (I grew up literally right across the St. Lawrence from Ontario.)

Thank God for Google Maps. We're 1.5 hours from Buffalo. Five and a half hours from Cornwall. We're plum on the other side of Lake Ontario from the St. Lawrence river.

I did grow up in Napanee, which meant every time out of town visitors came to visit, I'd have to take them on the 1000 islands cruise.

4. Marvel or DC? Why?

I really hate to choose, but if I have to, Marvel. It's got all the iconic characters I love (Captain America, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, the Fantastic Four, etc). And, you know, Alpha Flight. DC seems to be the home of Safe, with occasional crossovers. Marvel published a pulp comics anthology series in the '80s, and an SF anthology in the early '90s. Okay, Vertigo was good too. I'll give DC that. But I like Marvel's stuff more.

5. What single piece of Canadian history should every US citizen know, and why?

{Sigh} War of 1812.

Look, I'm sorry. But we really like that one. And Pierre Berton wrote such good books about it.
