I find it interesting, and it came up somewhere else, so I ressurect it for your consideration.

Really, I've begun to wonder about the applicability of these social fallacies to almost any marginalized group. In other words, does this apply to any extreme social group? Is it possible to let one's cause drive you into this set of beliefs, in whole or in part?

In particular, in measuring this against those who embrace their status as Feminists, African-American, GLBT, Handicapped, etc. and make a life out of championing that cause in the face of the majority.... I don't know. It seems that if you are inclined to see the world as "us vs. them" then these become far more applicable.

Then again, I'm pretty sure that would be a highly unpopular question to be asking.

I think it's a matter of people who have a strong identity vs people who have insufficient social conditioning. The GSFs are symptons of poor conditioning instead of the results of group identities.

I know plenty of people who aren't sci-fi nerds who still exhibit many of these behaviours. I think it does generalize quite well.
