Ladies and Gentiles: Today, in the squared circle... Actually, considering the two contestants, it's more a dance-off.

Both of these characters are refugees from the early '80s; one is a Disco Queen who came out while Disco's corpse was beginning to moulder, the other a breakdancing Latino mutant gang leader, which was just a bad idea in the first place.

Dazzler has a particularly interesting heritage. Apparently she'd been developed as a 'crossover media commodity' by Casablanca Records (you can't spell "Casablanca Records" without "coke and whores". Okay, you can, but it's much less fun) and Marvel. The writers at Marvel, not being dummies, decided they didn't want to do anything with it, until Shooter put his big shoe down. So was born Dazzler (and not her original name, "The Disco Queen"). She launched in the X-Men and, after nearly having her book cancelled before it was even released, she went on to be an existing part of the Marvel Universe, and has probably slept with Tony Stark, because that's how he rolls.

Still, she at least had more dignity than Vibe. Vibe was a member of Justice League Detroit, a dark time indeed for these noble heroes. Vibe was joined by Steel, a Legacy Hero with a huge unit, Gypsy, an invisible thief (ohhh, classy) and Aquaman, who was rendered powerless because swimming in Lake Erie would kill him, just like any other carbon based lifeform. Lovingly known as SJL ("Shitty Justice League"), they fought ennui and revulsion, unsuccessfully. Eventually, DC editorial sobered up, and they were all killed.

Occasionally, a writer will write a story dealing with Vibe's rich internal monolugue, and be laughed at by everyone in the world.

So! Who will reign supreme beneath the disco ball?
