Panelling (non wooden)
Jul. 10th, 2007 03:03 pmA quick summary of my panel experiences from this past weekend's con:
Friday Night:
Firefly 101: The point of doing an introductory panel for a cult show escapes me, since everyone in the audience was already a fan. But it was fun. Marcus' slow decay was evident. He had Pneumonia.
Taking Off: Omega Flight: I sat, alone and afraid, until
indefatigable42 came by to tell me it was okay to go.
Saturday:
1982, The Best Summer Ever: Much as I'd have preferred to do a discussion of the films themselves, Ed the Sock wanted to talk about how the current studio system sucks. Man, he sure does love the sound of his own voice.
Who Put the Fire in your Fly?: Much the same as the previous night's panel. Browncoats do love talking. Marcus continued his illness.
Lost: The Others: Good panel. I got to advance my theory of patricide as advancement method among the others.
Star Wars: thirty Years of Something or other: Good panel, nice general wandering SW discussion. Marred only by the attendance of a guy who hated Star Wars fans. Lynching was averted.
Sunday
Gendercide explored: Y: tLM It's hard to do a panel on a narrative when the attendee is someone who's interested in it, but has not yet had any exposure to it.You have to make sure you don't give away any actual plot elements that would ruin it for them, while trying to give an idea of the scope of the story. We did get to discuss some of the arcs, and some of the possibilities of adaptation (consensus: Would not maek a good movie, would make a great miniseries or tv show, if somewhat expensive).
