Okay, I'm kinda planning on seeing it anyway, but the reviews I've seen of Apocalypto are kind of perplexing. People refer to it as overly bloody, and someone mentioned Gibson's tendency to violence porn.

It's possible that he does enjoy making very violent films. There may be something inside him that enjoys very visceral stories. He can get a lot of that with historical movies, though. It could be very violent back before guns. Well, personally violent, anyways.

But the Aztecs, man, they were kind of the kings of that. The whole "if we don't cut out your heart, the sun don't come up!" thingy is kind of the main example of that. Plus sticks with hunks of Obsidian in them. Overall nastiness.

Apocalypto has looked gorgeous to me ever since I saw the second flyer (the one with more than just the lineup photo). It's entirely possible that I am just flashing on fond memories of Maztica, but I want to see an Aztec movie made by the guy who made Braveheart.

Next Friday, probably, if I can find a Cineplex showing it.

A good day

All days off are nice, of course. Today was nice and relaxing. I started off by sleeping in, then headed off to a cleaning at the dentist's. Tartar removal is better than work, which says more about my job than anything else.

Then, after picking up a mozza burger at A&W, it was off to Stoney Creek to get Supercar looked at. I've decided that I'd try a mechanic in Hamilton instead of going to the dealership, because that saves me about $100. No complaints!

Anyway, since I was unable to drive once I had the car in the garage (literally a garage, as it's run out of the mechanic's house), I was spent some time in the mechanic's lounge, which was nice. I read through a few issues of Smart Times, read some of Hogfather, and watched some of the first half of All Good Things.

After Supercar was looked over, I headed back to Mississauga to pick up the beast for roasting tomorrow, and stopped off at Chorizo's for my free burrito, and then headed over to my FNSLCS to pick up some stuff. They don't even pull for me anymore. That hurts. It would hurt more if I didn't usually buy most of my comics at Dragon Lady.

I also picked up a couple boosters of Supernova. Not a great selection, except for the Thanos. Holy crap, that's a nice figure. I think he's officially the biggest non Sentinel fig I have.

Home now, and have decided to spend some time reading the [livejournal.com profile] be_victims community, for people who got screwed by the Flanvention thingy.

It is unfortunate what's come to pass, but at least they're in SoCal.

I did notice one oddity; iJournal will keep your mood, music, and tags from post to post unless you specifically ask it not to.

That's one preference that seems kinda unnecessary. Otherwise, it's doing fine.
