Star Trek question

The great metaphor of the Original Series of Star Trek was the cold war. The Federation represented the West, and the Romulans and Klingons represented the Chinese and Soviets.

Now, then, I always wondered where the Organians fit in. A thought occured to me while this conversation was being held on Saturday with an occasional cast member of the last few seasons: they were the prospect of mutually assured destruction, MAD. A prospect that makes full on conflict stop being an option.

Yes, yes, I take a while to think about things.
