Update! Only 3 days! Wiiii!
Jun. 6th, 2006 04:27 pmBusy few days, and I have probably missed about 90% of the activity on LJ lately. Let me know if I've missed any life-changing events.
Saturday was part yardwork (not too much since it was raining) and part visit/BBQ.
anidada and
nottheterritory came over for a BBQ that got called on account of rain so the grub was Foreman'd up instead. Good to have someone over, since it's been a while since we had guests over. I made some chicken skewers using one of the new President's Choice sauces, the Mole (prounounced "MOH-LAY"). Not quite as spicy as I'd hoped, but thankfully spicy enough. The little one has gotten bigger since I last saw here, which is an interesting step. She stayed in a good mood until after dinner, which was also good. And, thankfully, no vomitting.
We played a few turns of Buffy. I think I need to step from behind the Evil Screen, as I found myself growing weak, and didn't send Spike to kill Willow. Okay, he was wounded and she had a crossbow, but still. He could have taken her.
I also waited 3 turns to use my 'summon Angelus' spell, but kept not getting a Villain on my action die. Quite frustrating, since I'd gotten Drusilla killed off pretty handily, and was ready to bring on my pet bad guy. Before that
nottheterritory and I played a game of Clout, and it's quite a fun game. The curve is pretty short once you've read the rules (and it's one of those games that you don't really need to read the rules before playing. Now, if only I had manual dexterity for throwing things.
Sunday was final completion of the garden. We dug, mixed, watered, laid weed tarp, planted, and caged. So, at the end of the day we were all stinky and sweaty, so we peeled off our work clothes and set to doing stuff about the house in bathrobes.
Then, something funny happened. To begin, I must set the scene. YHB was downstairs in the office, sending con stuff & surfing. Cynra is upstairs, eroding her brain with the Walk of Fame presentation show (Trish Stratus: hot chick, good wrestler, not a chanteuse by any stretch of the imagination).
Suddenly, a banging erupts from the front door!
YHB: "Man, I wonder why Cynra is making that horrible banging noise"
Cynra: "What is he doing that's making that horrible banging noise?"
Banging continues
YHB: "Wow, I wish she'd cut that out. That's darn annoying."
Cynra: "Seriously, that banging is annoying."
Banging continues
YHB: "Honey? Is everything okay? Your banging is starting to annoy me!"
Cynra: "Look, unless there's arterial spray involved, that kind of hammering is really un-necessary!"
Banging continues, melodically.
YHB: "Wait. Is that the door?"
Cynra: "Wait. Is that the door?"
So, yeah. It was the door. We went to the front door and what to our shining eyes should appear by
bnddbl07. Surprise! He'd been out for a bike ride in his new hometown and decided to swing by Casa Bitter for a say hi. We'd finally answerd the door before he rang us up on the celly.
He came in for a bit and sat down and brought us up to speed on his new digs and the move back to civilization (or, as I like to call it, "the place where we pay PST").
Yesterday (that's Monday, for those of you starting to fade) was normal work, with DaVinci Code afterwards. Man, that was a lot for 50 seconds of Smart Car Action. I do have to try driving backwards for a while, see if I can get my tires to squeal like that. Loads of talking headology and three sets of bad guys, only one of whose plans made any sense. Sir Ian was, as always, a larf.

Ah, June 6. A Tuesday, even.
Jun. 6th, 2006 10:14 pmUpstairs, History is running a documentary on Overlord. With the sheer amount that went wrong, it's great to think that so much worked so well as to get the invasion started.
A couple weeks ago, I took my copy of Saving Private Ryan to
mr_weasel's Saturday work to watch with him. We only watched the first 35 minutes, the landing at Omaha Beach (instead of the much more interesting landing at Juno).
It's easy to forget how intense Spielberg made that film. He succeeds in putting you there, bullets whizzing and the confusion of battle (file clerks landing with typewriters while the tanks had been sent to the bottom of the channel).
It certainly put a damper on playing A&A that afternoon.
