It Has Begins!
Jun. 9th, 2005 12:20 amSo, yah, tonight Cynra & I went to see Batman Begins courtesy of our favourite WB Employee.
Quite enjoyable. The origin is massaged into making sense, and you don't get the hoary scene of a nine year old Bruce Wayne swearing vengeance on his parents grave on a dark and stormy night. It makes him feel more natural. And the connection between Wayne Enterprises & Dr. Wayne also makes sense (it's always been a bit strange to me; he's a doctor AND he runs a giant corporation? AND he's superdad? Okay, sure).*
The film does have a high NQ (ninja Quotient), but it's acceptable.
The multiple villains were done well. I really liked the guy who played the Scarecrow; he reminded me of Sean Maher. The Arkham interiors were good, but the exteriors were less good. Gary Oldman was a good Gordon, Michael Caine a poor Alfred (poorly cast, primarily, but that's 90% of what you look for in this sort of thing). Bale was a good Wayne, poor Batman. Freeman was good, so was Qui Gon. Katie Holmes was the right balance of Damsel in Distress and Plucky Dame.
Sequels are not out of the question, I suppose. I'd watch them.
Cute facts: # of "We can't stop NOW! We're in Bat Country!" jokes YHB made? 37.
*Please note, if how Wayne Enterprises and "Simple City doctor Bob Wayne" connected has been made clear, I obviously didn't get that memo**.
** A joke from the film.
