Pointless stats about Napanee
Jan. 2nd, 2005 02:10 amWell, I got bored, so I pulled up Stats Canada's Community Profile of Napanee.
Interesting.
Apparently, the town has a bit of an issue with education. About 10% of the population has a University certificate, diploma or degree. 22% of the population over 20 does not have a high school graduation certificate. The percentage is higher than the provincial in each age bracket by a few points.
Men tend to be significantly less educated.
Religiously: all protestants. Well, 64%. 17% Catholic. 30 Jews (That's the number, not percentage). 10 Muslims (all men), 10 Buddhists (all women; hey, they should go out!), no pagans, wiccans, scientologists or Satanists. 60 Orthodox Christians (yes, yes, that includes me).
9% of the town's population is widowed, compared to six percent of the provincial populace. I blame this on the town's high concentration of seniors (19% vs 12.9% for the province). 7.2% of the population is divorced, compared to 6.5% of the province. A normal statistical anomaly? Who can tell, really. I don't know shit about this stuff.
The number of people in a single parent family is larger (2.7 compared to 2.5 for the province as a whole), except in single father families, where it's 2.2 to 2.5.
People in Napanee earn less than people in the rest of Ontario. Of course, a house costs $70K less than the provincial average. Government Transfers make up 16.4% of income in the town, as opposed to 9.8% for the rest of Ontario.
What does it all mean? It all means Napanee is the kind of place you come from.
