Dec. 28th, 2003 03:03 amOh, yes. We saw Paycheck on Christmas day, because we made it too late for Peter Pan. Oh, woe is me.
Now, I'm not saying it's a BAD film (there's enough grumps at Putrid Veggies dot com to do that), but Lord it wasn't good.
I don't think John Woo HAS a style anymore. Uday pointed out "oh, a bird flew into a room", which may qualify. But I think he hit his English Language apex with Face Off. Sorry to all the Feng Shui players out there.
The story was interesting enough, and it does make me wonder what the original read like, but it was just kinda goofy. Props to Woo for making Uma look like an ugly person. That's FX hard at work.
I also found it odd that Colm Feore was playing a heavy. Many's the time I asked my spouse, "Dear, why is Trudeau shooting at Daredevil?" at which point she reminded me we weren't watching either of those movies.
Oddly enough, in spite of the fact eating it has made my tummy upset after the last 3 films we've seen, I truly craved popcorn during this film.
We did watch a couple FireFly eps lately, as well as the extras on the DVD set. I like the bundled individual packaging that Firefly has (much as Futurama also has). Good and stable.
Damn, that was a good show.
Also did some FLCS shopping. 1602 #5 came and went, and I'm kinda wishing it WAS just a Marvel Elseworlds, so we could have the story progress a leeeeeetle faster. Hell, the Watcher just showed up, and that means ony one thing: Loads o' Exposition!
Supreme Power # 4 & 5: It don't SUCK, but it better pick up quick, Joe. It's getting awful familiar here; you did 'supers in a real world' before. I do like the new Nighthawk, and I can't wait to see Power Princess. But I feel like there's a bit too much deja view here.
Spider Joe 502 was good. A bit too flip, mind you (I keep hearing Peter Jurasik's voice coming out of every non-spiderman character; Adreas Katsulas does Spider Man), but enjoyable. And, once again, he does stuff with fate and prophecy that would work better if the prophecy hadn't been made only three issues ago.
The Tailor story? Good, in any case.
And next week is Astro City: Local Heroes # next.
