My letter to The Star

In your December 2 article, you noted Peter MacKay's father Elmer MacKay as the "most prominent Elmer in this great nation's history".
Surely, I think, this must be some mistake. Are our memories so short that we have already forgotten Elmer, the safety elephant? That paragon of staying away from heights and not sticking metallic objects into power outlets surely saved dozens of lives of Canadian youths.
In the pantheon of national safety icons, Elmer stands side by side with Astar the Robot. The slight against him in your column surely must be corrected.
