Good weekend. Celebrated Yuri's Day with Chris & Valerie on Friday by watching Futurama and playing Race for the Galaxy. We just didn't KNOW we were.

We went to visit the parents for Easter. Dinner was had after they got back from church. We went to Kingston for a short tour around town, and stopped by the old Lake Ontario Park to look around.

I've talked about Lake Ontario Park before. It's not a good sight to visit these days.

The entry to Lake Ontario Park. It's almost like it was set designed to look sad and forlorn. The park itself is mostly boarded up and abandoned. The rides are all gone, although sidewalks extend to where you'd board the scrambler and the tilt-a-whirl. A big blank space is where the giant slide used to be located, and a concrete pad is the only sign of where the very tiny roller coaster once stood.

The washrooms are still open and you can get to them during the summer if you're using the beach-front picnic area.

Abandoned mini-golf hole

Once upon a time, this had astroturf, little walls, and a cup you'd aim the ball for. Now there's only concrete and a few scraps of adhesive. With a few rocks it might make a nice garden.

Cynra taking aim.

Here's Cynra taking aim across an old hole. I suspect a replica Eiffel tower, or a big monkey, or a wall of moving logs could have been setup in front of where I was standing. From the length of my shadow you can tell it was late in the day. The wind off the lake made it rather chilly.

We also saw that they've installed a wind farm on Wolfe Island.

The farm is visible as you come up Bath Road into Kingston, and is easily visible from the Kingston waterfront. I wonder how loud the howls of NIMBY-ists were against its construction?

There are plans to upgrade it, either to an enviro-park or an art-park. It would be good to make use of the space.

On Easter we had a light breakfast before meeting up with Ron & Janet for Easter lunch with her family in Kingston. It being Easter, venue choice was somewhat limited, so it was at Lee Garden, an okay Chinese buffet joint.

We got there for noon, but it turned out the lunch was actually at one. Whoopsie! So we took a trip over to Bellevue House, former residence of Sir John A. McDonald. There'll be pictures of that tomorrow.

The iPhone does produce pretty nice web-grade pics!

And I'm glad Race for the Galaxy is getting some mileage!
