Sadly, I think you've just described my job. I'll swear I spend most of my day using phrases that no-one else understands and have to be repeatedly explained ;(

I make them up all the time, and forget them almost as quickly, but people generally seem to know what I'm talking about.

Lately, I've been saying 'Bite the ghost,' which is a mashup of 'bite the dust' and 'give up the ghost.' Everyone in my house knows what I'm saying; no one else would.
