Backyard photos on the last day of November

So yesterday I did the last of the fall leaf raking and bagging. While I was out back I took a minute to shoot a few pictures of the surroundings in the backyard.

First off is a garbage can (well, technically a yard waste can, note the natty sticker) full of branches hacked from the apple tree visible in the back. Removing deadwood is a fun little job, especially when all you've got to work with is a hacksaw and an anger problem.

This is the lone tomato plant sitting in the garden. To its left is the remnant of our "skunk plant" that was designed to repel critters from the garden. It did not work, as our devastated cornstalks attested. The other tomato plants were pulled and put into the composter, but it was full to the top so this one was left to rot in the ground.

Last year, as many of you may remember, we had to cut down our beautiful weeping willow. Of course, some things are harder to kill than others. I have no idea if it will grow back from this big mess, but I have hopes. We should consult an arborist, I guess.

If you didn't kill the roots of your weeping willow, you have an excellent chance that suckers will spring up, thereby insuring you at least one new tree and possibly your own small grove.

The roots and stump were left pretty much untouched, so that is good news. Excellent.
