I've been playing a fair amount of Crackdown lately. No, seriously. I've actually taken Cynra up on her offer to watch DWTS upstairs if I want to use the TV. Fuck politeness! I've got criminals to cap!
Anyway, it's oodles of fun (other than the fact I can't drive worth beans in game). But I've noticed one terribly sad thing.
The Agent is a cypher. He has no name, and is only referred to as "Agent" by the director. He is single handedly attempting to save the citizens of the city from the crushing tyranny of organized crime, and yet citizens flee from him on the street.
Okay, that may be because he has usually left several dozen of their compatriots' burning corpses up the street, but, hey! Collateral damage happens! Come on, where's the 'welcoming in the streets as liberators'?
Saddest of all is that he finds himself locked out of the life of the city. He can lift a tow truck over his head, but he can't take a simple ride on a city bus. He can blow the doors off a crime lab, but he's unable to get into a dance club. Unless there's a mob general to kill inside.
He walks among the citizenry, but he can never become one of them.
Plus, he's not a good driver.
So sad. So very, very sad.
