From Hitman, pg 340:

Dorit said that when astronaut Neil Armstrong visited the city and was told that these were the very steps that Jesus climed on his way to Golgotha, Armstrong said that it was harder for him to climb these steps than it was for him to walk on the moon.

Not to harsh on Neil's religious experience, but wouldn't that be because the moon is only 1/6th Earth's gravity?

Buzz Aldrin brought a communion service to the Moon, but Armstrong didn't participate.

What's the link?

I'm not sure what Armstrong's professed religious affiliation is (now or in 1969) but I believe Aldrin is a Presbyterian. If Armstrong was/is of a different denomination than Aldrin, it's possible he might have refrained simply for that reason. It's also possible he didn't want to cause a controversy, given that Madalyn Murray O'Hair was raising a stink about astronauts engaging in supposedly religious activities in space.

How could she have possibly stopped them, though?

Yes, but they'd blow up mid-shot and crash onto Vladivostok, killing millions. WILL THEY RISK IT?!?

She couldn't have, but NASA has always been adverse to negative publicity and even when a crackpot launches a frivolous suit like O'Hair did, they still cringed a little.

Anyway, it was just a wild theory. I'm sure the truth of it is probably pretty prosaic.

Bah! You 'scientists' and your 'theories'.

Those suits are pretty cumbersome.
