Other Polaris experiences

Friday night was [livejournal.com profile] summ3r_daze's birthday party. There were bagels, lox, cream cheese, punch, and visits from security, so you know that was a good party. Saw many folk there, and got to catch up a bit with [livejournal.com profile] cinn48. Trivia must be had, quickly!

Got to sit down with [livejournal.com profile] canker_canison and [livejournal.com profile] browncoat_2x2 for a game of Ninja Burger, only to realize we had nothing to use for money or honour tokens (if I was aware I was playing a Cheapass game, I would have been mroe prepared). So we played Tsuro instead (and that's why you always bring a backup game). The game is a fun and fast one, and I hope it doesn't go the path of Filthy Rich in falling to poor sales.

[livejournal.com profile] pann_da_bear had perfected his Buddy Christ costume, which was impressive. I wore my MODOK costume, but I could not get my wig and the costume broke.

I passed [livejournal.com profile] momentrabbit in the hall, and [livejournal.com profile] redeem147 was surprised we'd never met before.

Warren Ellis apologists are everywhere. You make one joke about stepping away from the blog to fucking finish Planetary already, and dorsal ridges go up on nerds everywhere. There also exist people who liked Civil War ("oh, that wath eckthplained in Wolverine") and A-SB&R, and not on some strange hipster-irony level.

Geez, Justin, the bit with the bagels and stuff reminds me of a convention I went to.

SteveR and I went to Confluence down in Pittsburgh one year, back in the day, and we hosted a room party there on the Saturday night. Phil Klass aka William Tenn, was there, along with Jack Chalker, John de Chancie, and several other writers and all, and Phil Klass was delighted because we were serving Montreal bagels with lox and cold cream chesse (managed that with a small cooler, and ice from the hallway ice machines). Phil bit into the bagel, and suddenly *knew* that it was a Montreal bagel; he hadn't had a Montreal bagel in years apparently and really missed them.

I actually gave him a large bag with Montreal bagels to take home with him, and he was so grateful that he bought us dinner on the Sunday night. Lovely man, full of class. I still have the photos of Phil eating bagels, lox, and cream cheese! :)

Are there any open parties at Polaris?

I heard about that, given what happened with Ad Astra it seems to be developing into a Toronto fandom sport.

Y'know, The Mate and I were wondering why there were no room party posters posted. I take it something happened (or someone?) at Ad Astra, then..

Feh. Oh well. I shall just have to try to insinuate myself back into the broader fandom. :)

A pleasure to make your brief acquaintance, by the by.

As mentioned on the same blog you deride: I finished writing PLANETARY over a year ago. So people are probably not apologising, so much as pointing out you're a knobend.

(And, also mentioned there, John started drawing a few weeks ago.)

Duuuuuude...you got Warren Ellis to call you a knobend in your own blog, truly a great moment of your celebrity :)
