In which TBG discusses how he'd like to make his ass comfortable.

You know what I really need? A leather wingback chair to read in.

We saw the perfect one at Leon's a few years ago. It was on sale, too, since it was a floor model, but it was in pretty much perfect shape. We left it behind, and it apparently got snatched up pretty quick, since we went back a few days later and it was gone.

But there is not a single comfortable chair in the house. The sofa and loveseat are both nice, but I can't get comfortable in them. And the pink monstrosity is too wide, too long, and too hard. It's like it was designed to kill finicky bears.

We have two rockers we got from Leon's, but they're in the living room, and that room is too busy to do anything in.

I feel your pain on that one. I couldn't find a comfortable place to read at all yesterday evening and ended up lying on the floor or my roommate's art studio randomly which was more comfy than it looked ;)

It is so, so important to have a comfortable place in the house to do some reading. I usually take up a spot across my hard, cheap IKEA loveseat, which somehow serves my purposes well- I can't read sitting. I have to be laying down.

Why not just take the cushions off?

I have a papasan chair from Pier One (via a friend who moved into an apartment too small for it). It's great for reading, although a bit top-heavy if I'm not settled into it properly. I imagine that it would be worse for people whose centres of gravity are higher up in their bodies (i.e. men).

...

I'm too puerile to comment constructively.

Every time I read that sentence it seems more and more lewd. ^^

So, if I'm reading this right, you admit you don't have any place comfortable to sit, but you insist on inviting people over for Christmas parties, Halo parties, etc., etc.? You must either really like your friends, or really hate them.

[identity profile] absinthe-dot-ca.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that a hint? :-)

Besides, I hear the angel-down-stuffed chaise lounges are a pain to clean if anyone spills anything on them (something about a dark spot on the soul?), so it would have to be a "no food or drinks" Halo party, which sort of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? (As opposed to defeating the porpoise, which I understand is one of the level bosses in the new Ecco the Dolphin game.)

My mother's boyfriend swears by his Poang (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S09829137) for a reading chair.

They're amazing chairs. The new ones cost different amounts depending on what they're covered with, I think, but check out Craigslist too.

Here we go -- the non-leather version (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S29830620) is substantially cheaper.

Move one?

Also, why do you own furniture you hate? Ditch it! Then you will have room for furniture you'd like. In the meantime: pillows.

the floor!

Then you'll need a smoking jacket and a pipe. There'll be no end to it.
