A question for people who are not Canadian

Or at least, do not live in an urban area in Ontario.

How hard is it for you to acquire hard core pornography? At least, offline? Do you have readily accessible shops whose sole purpose is the dissemination (NPI) of porn, with bits touching each other?

Is that material available in general merchants (i.e. in magazine format at normal corner stores, on dvd at a non-specialist video store)?

For those of you who do not wish to talk about smut, All your Base, as done by Queen.

it's easy. We have "adult" shops that (depending on if they're a small shop or a large "emporium") sell a variety of things from videos to sex toys to lingerie to full blow costumes (BDSM and other). Some rent them out, some sell them, some do both.

Magazines can be found in many news-stands, convenience stores (though here in the South that's starting to go away again). Soft(er) core mags can be found in some retail chain bookstores.

As for non-specialty stores, at least in the south, not so much.

Well, I grew up in a village in Ontario, and there was one grocery/gas/video/post office place called McKeown's, and on the top shelf they had such video delights as The Loin King and Edward Penis Hands. Not quite the variety we may find now in porn stores, but a pretty huge selection for a community of like, less than 500 people, mostly church-goers (except for us heathens).

You really have questions about the availability of porn in Montreal? Where we allow "full contact" lap dances?

But kidding aside, when I lived in a small Illinois college town, there was one store that sold adult material. Toys, magazines, videos for sale or rent, gag gifts, and viewing rooms in the back, in case you didn't want to bring that tape home to the wife.

But some of the restrictions on what the videos could show were silly. If it had even the slightest flavour of BDSM, then there could be no touching of naughty bits. No penetration by ANYTHING, not oral sex, no masturbation, nothing. The one and only bondage video consisted of flimsy excuses to tie girls up while naked, and then 5 minutes of watching them squirm in their bonds, then change position and start again. The sole domination video involved whips and getting the sub to do degrading things, like crawl like a dog, cluck like a chicken, or say nasty words. No touching.

I got bored, and didn't do much investigation past these two videos, but I was told that they were all like that, by law. No fetish tape could have sexual content as well. *shrug* I'm glad to be home for several reasons, but that's one of the smaller ones.

I can go to a newstand right around the Universities here in Pittsburgh and get hard-core porn.

I can go to one of three sex shops in town (including one huge one) and get hard-core porn.

I can go to my friend's house, as he got a big box of hard-core porn with his t-shirt order for his shop.

I can order it online.

So basically, really easy. :)

I'd like to append to my comment after reading other comments:

I assumed you meant videos, so I answered in kind. Magazines are even easier to come by.

The Zero Wing Rhapsody was quite cute. Kudos and Gracias.

Actually, the clubs I was at in the past here didn't have full-contact. I'm guessing that's an infrequent thing.

It was no Bohemian Polka, but I agree.

Incidentally, Zero Wing was a pretty cool game.

I finally got sick of AYB when I found a site with about 50 MP3s of some dude singing the AYB intro script over various songs on a karaoke machine.

Same here. Except, my parents never carried it in our store, just the softer stuff.

Cosms: Some cosms tend to be somewhat goofy fantasy versions of the nation (Nippon Tech or Aysle are the two primary examples, Nile Empire slightly less so). The others are pastiches; Cyberpapacy (Cyberpunk with a medieavel schismatic church in place of corporations), Orrorsh (Lovecraftian horror in a south asian setting) Tharkold (Cyber-Horror). Then there’s the Living Land, which just sucked. Land Below merged LL with NE to make “good” setting.

China: Low tech, mid social, high magic and spirit. Wuxia & warlords. The High Lord is the Emperor of the invading China (possibly the First Emperor of China w/ DD). Wandering heroes against corrupt bureaucrats? Possibly apply laws of Heroism from Nile Empire, attribute packages for big heroes. Hong Kong is a mixed NT/CC setting, so guys can have guns in each hand. Revamp MA rules?

India: I have no idea. High magic, Spirit, mid social, low tech. Ask Brand for info/help on this. High Lord may be a false divinity (although most HLs are close enough in power level to the real thing), or just a raj or sorceror. Definite conflict w/ Gaunt Man.

Sub-Saharan Africa: Low Tech, High Spirit, Med Magic, Mid Social. Strip-mine Nyambe for everything you can find. High Lord: Not a white guy with an elephant gun. DD can be large ebony statue of Elephant? Lions abound. Horror setting similar to Orrorsh? Pulp adventure setting where Africans get to DO something?
